Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create a campaign?

Sign up on akabbo.com, create your fundraising profile, then create and publish your campaign with the details donors need to understand your cause. Once the campaign is live, share its link with your community so people can donate directly through Akabbo.

Are there hidden fees or processing fees?

There is no fee to create a campaign on Akabbo. Akabbo applies a 7% platform fee to each donation. Donors may choose to cover this fee at checkout; otherwise, it is deducted from the donation. The fee is clearly disclosed prior to completing the transaction, and no additional or hidden fees are charged.

Example: If someone donates UGX 10,000, the fee is UGX 700 and the campaign receives UGX 9,300 net. If the donor covers the fee, they pay UGX 10,700 and the campaign receives the full UGX 10,000.

Are there limits on how much I can donate at a time?

Donation limits can depend on the payment method, including Mobile Money, bank card rules, provider limits, and any security or compliance checks that apply to the transaction. If a payment cannot be completed at the selected amount, the platform or payment provider will prompt you before completion.

What payment methods does Akabbo support?

Akabbo supports Mobile Money payments through MTN and Airtel, as well as card payments through Visa and Mastercard. Available payment options may vary depending on your location, payment provider, and the transaction being made.

How do I know my money is secure when I use Akabbo?

Donations are handled through secure, industry-standard providers, with encryption and safeguards in place to protect user transactions. You also have real-time visibility of funds collected, with a public view of total contributions available on the platform for transparency.

Can I donate anonymously?

Yes, donors have the option to donate anonymously. When making a donation, you can choose to hide your name and other identifying information from the public campaign page. However, for payment processing and receipt purposes, some information may still be collected by the payment provider.

How do I make my campaign successful?

To run a successful campaign, people need to know about it. Even the most important cause can fall short of its goals if it does not reach enough potential supporters. Here are some tips to help your campaign gain traction:

  • Write a descriptive campaign title
  • Craft a compelling campaign story (explain clearly how the money will be used)
  • Choose high-quality photos for your campaign
  • Share your campaign via social media, family, email and friends
  • Post regular updates to your campaign
What makes a strong campaign description?

A strong campaign explains the need, the costs, and the timeline.

  • Be specific: Say exactly what the money is for. Example: “Raise funds for school fees for 20 students” instead of “Help children.”
  • Make it measurable: The goal amount should connect to real costs. Example: “UGX 2,000,000 for tuition, books, and uniforms.”
  • Keep it realistic: The amount should feel realistic for the campaign audience. Example: UGX 3M may be easier to trust than UGX 300M without a detailed breakdown.
  • Stay relevant: The goal should match the campaign story. If the campaign is for medical treatment, the costs should clearly relate to treatment, transport, medicine, hospital bills, etc.
  • Add urgency: There should be a clear deadline or urgency. Example: “Needed by June 30 for surgery” or “School term starts in two weeks.
Why should I choose Akabbo instead of GoFundMe?

Akabbo is designed for local fundraising workflows, including campaign creation, donation collection via local and international payment methods such as Airtel and MTN Mobile Money, as well as Visa and Mastercard. Platforms like GoFundMe operate more broadly but do not natively support local mobile money providers.

How do campaign organizers withdraw funds?

Campaign organizers can request withdrawal of available funds through the Withdraw Funds section of the platform. Withdrawals are sent to the organizer’s designated payout bank account after applicable verification checks and processing timelines.

Are donations refundable?

Donations are generally non-refundable once completed. If you believe a billing error occurred, such as a duplicate charge or incorrect amount, contact support so the transaction can be reviewed.
