Fried plantains are a delicious and popular dish in many cuisines, served with beef strips, it’s transformed into a simple, easy to make, glorious dish. Just follow this recipe:
Ingredients:
- Ripe plantains (yellow with black spots)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- all purpose flour
- 1 lb. beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced into strips
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Green, yellow & red bell peppers
- Fresh coriander
Instructions:
Plantain;
- Select Ripe Plantains:
Choose ripe plantains with yellow skin and some black spots. Ripe plantains are sweeter and have a softer texture. - Peel and Slice:
- Cut off the ends of the plantains.
- Make a shallow cut along the length of the plantain and peel off the skin.
- Cut the plantains into diagonal slices or rounds, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Pat each slice of plantain with flour and place separately on a tray. Make sure you remove the extra flour on each slice of plantain before frying. The flour avoids the plantain from becoming glossy after frying.
3.Heat Oil:
- Pour enough vegetable oil into a frying pan to submerge the plantain slices.
- Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F (175°C).
4.Fry the Plantains:
- Carefully add the plantain slices to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry the plantains for 2-3 minutes on each side or until they turn golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried plantains to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Beef strips;
- In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper to create a marinade.
- Add the sliced beef strips to the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate for a few hours for better flavor absorption.
- Heat 3 table spoons of vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
- Add the marinated beef strips to the hot pan. Cook while stirring until the beef is ready. Don’t forget to add salt to your taste.
- Once the beef strips are cooked, add thinly sliced bell peppers( mix colors-yellow, red and green), toss for 1minute or 2 then turn off the heat.
- Add finely chopped coriander to the mixture and cover the pan for 1minute before serving.
- Serve:
- Dress your plate with the fried plantain on one side, and your beef strips on the other and enjoy. Use this recipe for a quick lunch or dinner, or only the plantain as a snack anytime of the day or a side dish. You can pair up the beef strips with a bowl of rice, noodles, steamed sweet potatoes or pumpkin.
